GENERAL INFORMATION

We are a registered charity – 1125285 – new objectives have been approved by the Charity Commission for England and Wales
We now exist in order to create the New Faraja Home-from-Home
We also intend to open the first play centre in Northern Tanzania
Our objectives are:

TO ADVANCE EDUCATION, RELIEVE POVERTY AND PRESERVE AND PROTECT THE GOOD HEALTH OF ORPHANED AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN IN THE KILIMANJARO AND ARUSHA REGIONS OF NORTHERN TANZANIA.
FOR SUCH OTHER CHARITABLE PURPOSE AS THE TRUSTEES MAY FROM TIME TO TIME
DETERMINE.
BACKGROUND

We have until recently been supporting children by paying for food, rent and salaries
This centre has been found to be run by people who were corrupt therefore we decided not to continue with this centre and establish a new and ethically run centre as soon as possible
Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world:

30% of the population are now living below the WHO poverty line.
Many children are orphaned owing to the increasing spread of HIV/AIDS and the ongoing problem of malaria.
Nearly 12 in 100 children die before they reach the age of 5.
The average life expectancy is under 50 years.
About 10% of the population are living with HIV/AIDS and orphan numbers are increasing at an alarming rate.
CURRENT SITUATION

We are in the process of searching for a suitable piece of land – this will hopefully be finally identified and purchased in January 2009 when our Chairman visits the area again
Our architect, also a trustee, has now completed the drawings for the Home-from-Home and play centre
Our renewables expert, also a trustee, is working on suitable solar products to power the centre for light, warm water and refrigeration of essential drugs when needed
We then will build a new “home-from-home” for no more than 24 children
We will also construct a play centre to be made available for orphaned and under-privileged children within the community.
We will train local play workers, get local parents involved and eventually expand this part of the project into other communities in the region. It is an innovative and exciting development given that the value of play is not really understood in that part of the world.
